25 tips for looking youthful
25 tips for looking youthful
Since I've turned 25, I thought I'd list my top tips for looking younger now that I'm halfway to fifty.
- I'm going to kick this off with the most important one... Wear sunscreen every single day. I wear factor 50 by La Roche Posay. Sunscreen can feel greasy so I use it as my day moisturiser. If you can take one thing from this list then it's this one. The best possible way to prevent wrinkles is to always remember to wear sunscreen as it's much better than trying to do damage control later.
- Have a good skincare routine. Start with the basics and Start now and build on it as you get more familiar with it.
- Go to a good skin care clinic. You want a proper aesthetician or dermatologist to be looking at your skin so they can give you suitable facials that suit your skin type.
- My favourite skincare brands are Zo skin health and Image skincare which I get prescribed to me by my own aesthetician.
- I go to Clinetix in Glasgow. I usually go to the one in the West End but recently I've been going to the Brothwell one.
- If you're on a budget, use good skincare that's affordable, there's plenty of decent brands out there. Skincare is more important than makeup so I would use cheaper makeup and more expensive skincare so that you're prioritising your skin. Healthy skin is the key to looking youthful.
- I recommend bare minerals makeup for everyday as the mineral foundations have an anti inflammatory effect on your skin so this is the only makeup brand I would recommend for this purpose. Bare minerals is very natural so If you do like heavier makeup like myself opt for non comedogenic makeup which means it doesn't clog pores. Nars is a good one if you want fuller coverage but do your research so you can find something that suits.
- Destress. manage your stress because stress will only accelerate the aging process.
- I have a lot of self-care baths and showers. I'm a water sign so anytime I'm in water I feel zen. So where's your happy place?
- Exercise. Find an exercise routine that you love and stick to it. Get your body moving more. Don't be lazy and just do it because this will keep your body mobile.
- Use Epsom salts for your baths, you can get a huge bag of them from home bargains or savers and they're better value for money than bath bombs and they will relax tired muscles meaning you will feel more supple.
- Dance more. Dancing keeps you happy and upbeat. It also improves your memory so keep your brain sharp and your body moving.
- Yoga. Stretch, manage your breath and meditate. This will make you feel more flexible no matter how old you are.
- Drink water or plenty of fluids all the time for clear skin.
- Manage your screen time. Turn your brightness down. Put it on reading mode especially at night and consider getting those screen glasses. Protect your vision.
- Go for Saunas and steam rooms for a good detox. These are great for getting a sweat after you exercise and they work for me. I especially recommend them for after a weekend of drinking.
- Have a good diet. I recommend the blood type diet which is a different diet for each blood type but just choose one that feels good for you. There is no one size fits all when it comes to nutrition and dietetics so it's trial and error but that's the good thing about turning 25 you've tried it all so will naturally know your body better.
- Take your vitamins and supplements. Start with a multivitamin and omega3 it will have everything you need and if you have any deficiencies take more but only if you need to. If you live in the UK, you're probably deficient in vitamin D by nature as we don't get enough sunshine all year round so I would add this if you're prone to the winter blues.
- Don't use sunbeds, ever. I've never been for a sunbed in my life and I can always tell when people use them. These things are nasty and will make your skin look leathery so just don't do it, it's not worth it. Stick to fake tan or tinted moisturiser or better, embrace a natural look.
- Keep your face out the sun. I use factor 50 all over my body when I'm sunbathing but you don't have to be as obsessive as me as I do reapply it every two hours but factor 30 will allow you to tan without burning because honestly I haven't had a tan in years. I use La Roche Posey for all my sunscreens. The cheaper ones are decent as well, I recommend Garnier. Even if you want a good colour, keep your face covered to prevent sun damage.
- Aloe Vera is your best friend. Always have this in your first aid kit. If you have a burn or redness on your face this will cool your skin. An aloe vera plant isn't a bad idea either. I recommend AKIMO aloe Vera gel, you can get it on amazon, it's organic and I used it in Bali and Thailand and it was very good. It's so pure, I watched a video on how it's made and can confirm it's pretty much the pure plant so I couldn't recommend it more for keeping your skin cool.
- Back to skincare, use serums as they penetrate deeper than moisturisers then use your standard thicker moisturiser last. Use an eye cream as well and. add retinal and a suitable acid into your routine depending on your skin type. Please do your research and learn all about skin because there's so much to it that I couldn't possibly explain in one blog.
- This is unnecessary and I'm going to regret mentioning it because it's so harsh but if you want to go to extremes then making less facial expressions will prevent lines showing up on your face. Now I personally love when people are animated because there's so much entertainment value in it so this is only for anyone who is concerned with the lines on their face and wants to be overly cautious. I was apprehensive about mentioning it but at the end of the day it works. What we do with our face becomes more and more visible over time so less frowning and more smiling because our lines tell us a lot about ones character.
- Get plenty of sleep. This will differ from person to person. I don't need a full 8 or 9 hours but if you do ensure you always get it as this will make you less tired. Go to bed at the same time every night and rise at the same time.
- Work a job you love and find your passion. When your happy everyday you will most likely increase your lifespan. Having a terrible job will drain you so please work towards finding a career you enjoy if you want youth.
